Weekend Update

Well, this is the last post for the Get Fit 4 Christ program! I'm very happy with the outcome, although I only lost about 6 or 7 pounds. My daughter was home and took my measurements and I've lost a total of 4 inches off my waist! I'm really excited about that because that's been a real problem area for me. While I understand that you can't lose weight in spots - you have to lose all over - it's been very difficult for me to lose weight in my stomach area. That's where I gain it first and lose it last.

I was not able to go on the 5K walk, but I did make my Killer Core class on Saturday. My daughter went with me and she thought it was very challenging. She's very athletic, so if it was hard for her, it was pretty hard. I was sore after class (as usual), but I felt better by the next day. It seems like we always target different muscles, so something different hurts each time.

Saturday, we went to a baby shower and I ate a few things I shouldn't have, like pasta salad (with meat), tuna salad and a little soda. I only ate very small portions and just had a 1/2 glass of soda. Afterwards my daughter wanted fried chicken wings for dinner (college students), so we had that and some rice-a roni and I made me some brussel sprouts. The chicken smelled so good, but I ate my rice and brussel sprouts first so I wouldn't eat so much chicken. I ended up only eating two wings and I pulled the skin off (my daughter tried to eat the skin off my plate, but I wouldn't let her). On Sunday, I made a ham, sweet potatoes, greens and home made rolls. I only had 2 slices of ham, one helping of potatoes, no greens and two rolls. I did have a couple glasses of sweet tea. But it's OK, because Sunday is my free day.

If anyone is reading this, thanks for watching my progress. Writing about it really helps! I plan to continue eating right, exercising and getting more water and vitamins.

Snack: None
Lunch: Progresso Chicken and wild rice soup, pineapples tidbits, water
Snack: Slimfast

My 45 min Rock Bottom Class was cancelled, so instead I did 30 minutes on the elliptical, 4 sets of 10 lat raises, 2 sets of 10 arm curls and the 1 hour Killer Core class (yea me)! I was starving when I got home, so luckily I had the salmon planned and it was thawed by the time I jumped out of the shower. It's great having meals you can throw together quickly. The ultimate fast food!

Went to the Y for class and realized I was there at the wrong time! Instead of leaving and coming back, I decided to jump on the elliptical and went for 30 minutes! I burned 300 calories! The most I've ever done at one time is 15 minutes. I also did 4 sets of 10 lat pull downs and 20 arm curls.

Last Week!

Well, it's the last week of the program. I'm not sure if I've accomplished my weight goals (my scale and Lyle's scale are completely different). I do know that I have an entirely different relationship with food. Before, I spent most of my morning deciding what I was going to eat for lunch and then the afternoon deciding what to do about dinner. Now that I bring my lunch - the decision is made and I don't have to think about it. My dinner options are limited to fish or chicken, so there's not a lot of work there either. I purchased about 6 bags of frozen vegetables this weekend, so usually if I can't decide what to eat, I just close my eyes and stick my hand in the freezer. Whatever I pull out is what I eat. I limit the amount of starches - mac & cheese, rice-a-roni, etc., so there's not a lot of work there either.

When I started this, I was very concerned that I would not be able to accomplish the diet portion of the program. I knew that as long as I had an appointment to work out, I would go. We originally (my sister and myself) were supposed to go to Lyle for personal training twice a week, but his schedule got full and we had to stop going. The other option was to go to bootcamp, but I didn't want to work out that late. Usually, this would be enough for me to throw my hands up and say "forget it, its just not for me to lose weight". Instead, I got my YMCA catalog and picked out 2classes that worked for me. I now go to three classes and I'm at the "Y" 5-6 days a week.

Since I've started the program, I've been able to follow the diet. I don't follow it to the letter, but I do have a the required proteins, veggies, fruits etc., per day. Somedays it seemed like too much food and I've actually cut back a little. I can say that other than work lunches, I've not eaten any fast food while I've been at work. That is unheard of for me! I normally eat out 4-5 times a week and at least 2-3 times on the weekend. There have been weeks, where I've eating out twice a day all week! Now, I can't imagine doing that. I keep grilled chicken and fish in the freezer along with canned soup (which I only use as a backup due to the sodium content), veggies and I'll buy "kits", like ckicken fijita that I can throw in the microwave quickly. Fast food gave me the ability to not have to think about what I wanted to eat. I know when I go to McDonalds it's nuggets, fries soda - every time. I was just lazy. It takes time to plan meals, shop and prepare food.
Now, with my current system - I can go from freezer to table in about 15 minutes, the food is good and I don't feel guilty. I'm not going to say I'll never eat fast food again, because I will. But it will be an exception and not a rule.

So, even if I don't reach the magical 10 pounds, I know that so far I've lost 3 inches from my waist, 2 inches from my hips and 1 inch from my chest. I've also gained control over my eating and lost the craving for fast food. For, me that makes me a CHAMP!

Weekend Update

This weekend went pretty well. I had my class on Friday evening and was on my own for dinner. On Saturday, I had my "Killer Core" class and I was pretty worried about how I would feel afterwards given what happened last week. I was pretty sore after the class, but by the next day I felt fine. I'm going to go back on Monday. Saturday afternoon I had a meeting with a nutritionist who showed us how to select foods based on sodium and cholesterol levels. I recently found out I have high cholesterol (224), so this was very important to me. After class we went out to dinner to Ponderosa, where I got some veggies from the food bar and a small sirloin steak. My sister was very good and got the grilled chicken which came with a baked potato and grilled vegetables. Next time, I'll get that too!

On Sunday, I got up early to do house work, went to the store and cleaned out my car. I fixed barbequed chicken wings, baked beans and mixed veggies for dinner. I normally would have two or three starches and no vegetables when I BBQ. This program has made a huge difference in the way I look at food.
